Liar, Liar Pants on Fire
For the number of times he has derailed honest discussion of the nation’s business with blatant lies and crass party propaganda, Tony Astaphan, the longest serving chief apologist for corrupt governance in Dominican history, has been branded an inveterate liar.
Indeed his insatiable appetite for lies has landed him before the very court in which he is a senior advocate on charges of deliberately manufacturing false statements to defame people he does not like.
Those who accepted the gentleman as just another exuberant party supporter sat back in amazement and took careful note of the severely conflicting stories he came up with after the January 2004 death of former Prime Minister Pierre Charles in justification of whatever leadership option worked for him.
At first, on the Labour party leadership succession issue, he was clear that there was an understanding between Griffin St Hilaire and Pierre Charles. So when Pierre Charles asked for his input in the selection of a successor he spoke to Griffin St Hilaire. When Skerrit emerged as leader, and in order to ingratiate himself to the new Labour Party King, he made a complete about turn on the St Hilaire option
And then there were the colleagues of Pierre Charles who Astaphan claimed drove the fallen leader to his grave with their treachery. “When he stretched out his hand … where were they? They were biting it and stabbing him in the back at the same time”:
In April of this year, Astaphan ascended to new heights in his chronic discomfort with the truth.
First he was forced to apologize to Sir Fenton Ramsahoye Chairman of a Commission Inquiry in St Lucia, because in his excitement over scoring political points for former Prime Minister Kenny Anthony he actually misrepresented simple statements from the learned QC.
And then, one week later, he took on the truth that Athie Martin and Angelo Allen had spoken about CARICOM Secretary General and twisted it in one of the classic self entrapment stories of all time.

now…listen carefully to the lengths to which Astaphan goes to discredit the gentlemen for speaking the truth:

Note that when Matt Peltier reminded him that Athie said he heard it on the BBC Caribbean Report, Astaphan hastily dismissed that by saying he checked the BBC as well and there was no such statement from Carrington.

I have but one comment to make Mr Astephan should stick to what he knows legal matters only, it is plainly evident that as a pòlitical spinner he is not very good. I well understand his political leanings he does nicely in representing the Government and as result he has a very comfortable life style.
The clever political spinner alike to the clever lawyer never allow themselves to be even slightly criticised they are correct to a point faultless in fact, and above all a lawyer should never ever have to appear as defendant in a court of law, especially when the evidence for the injured is beyond question, and the defence is basing their accusations on falsehoods.
This attack on Mr Linton about monies in banks is basically in my view politically motivated, and very dangerous ground for an advocate of the court to find himself in, I would go as far as to say that it is professional suicide.
to return to the issue Mr Astephan has shown and demonstrated to all and sundry that he can be largesse with the truth and it displayes a course of conduct, a course of conduct that will be quite naturally picked up by the very people who are going to adjudicate in this forthcomming trial that he has brought upon himself by the accusations he made against Mr Linton.
In conclusion I was always taught always do what is right, do unto others what you would like them to do to you, and never lie ever and to fear God and keep his commandments for this is the whole duty of man
the thing is he doesn't listen to himself. He just says what he wants. He's singing for his supper. I keep laughing at he and Crazy everytime i remember the last election campaign. Yhese guys have no shame.
It must be something he had eaten as a child!! He has knowledge but no wisdom even none of the above.
